What are the Best Materials for Scrubs?

As you know, scrubs aren’t built the same way as regular clothes, as they have much higher quality standards and demands to meet.

Did you know that in the early 1900s, rudimentary scrubs were made from muslin fabric before changing to a mixture of muslin and rubber to make them more moisture resistant? Since then, innovation has taken precedence with scrubs being made predominantly from polyester, viscose, and spandex. This mix of fabrics is lightweight, yet strong enough to withstand multiple washings.

We’ve combined the best properties of these three fabrics to create an optimal result for women’s and men’s scrubs that you all absolutely LOVE!

Poly

Poly is a technical, modernised, extra durable material that’s one of the least shrinkable fabrics around. It holds up well and dries quickly, while resisting shrinkage and helping scrub tops and joggers maintain their shape. Although it is sensitive to heat, it works well when blended with the right materials, making it highly durable. Colour dyes in polyester are also extremely long-lasting.

Using the perfect ratio of this fabric makes for a winning scrubs set ingredient… Simki uses 81% poly, and it works wonders!

Viscose

Viscose is a unique fabric derived from wood pulp. It is more absorbent than cotton, drapes well, and appears soft, silky, and neat. When combined with polyester, viscose creates a durable and stretchy weave for flexible wearing. It is also smooth against the skin and wrinkle-resistant, making it easy to care for, and can be tumble-dried on low heat.

A marginal 15% of viscose used in the making of Simki scrubs takes them to the next level in softness and stretch! Now for the final ounce of perfection…

Spandex

With just a 4% sprinkle used in the makeup of simki scrubs, spandex is a stretchy fabric that always returns to its original shape, preventing bagging and sagging. It is also resistant to perspiration and stains, which makes it ideal for you moving around the workplace with ease.
